The Bebryces were a people whom Strabo conjectured to be Thracians.1,2 The Bebryces were settlers in Mysia who preceded the arrival of the Bithynians and Thyni.3,1 They occupied the region around Cyzicus before the Phrygians and Thracians arrived.4 The Bebryces shared the area around Cyzicus with the Dryopes prior to later migrations.4 They are considered the same people as the Phrygians.2

The Bebryces were ruled by King Amycus, son of Poseidon.3 Amycus is identified as the champion of the Bebryces in this passage.5 When the Argo arrived after leaving the Clashing Rocks, the Bebryces inhabited the land.6 The Bebryces gathered under the shade of plane trees when their champion's shell was blown.5 They cheered their champion during the boxing match against Polydeuces.5 The Bebryces attacked Pollux after he defeated their king in a boxing match.3 The Argonaut chiefs put the Bebryces to flight with great slaughter.3

Heracles seized a large amount of land from the Bebryces and gave it to Lycus.7 The Bebryces fought against Lycus, son of Dascylus, in a battle.7 Heracles killed King Mygdon, who was the brother of Amycus, during the battle.7 A raping army sent by the Curetes went to war against the Bebryces.8 The war against the Bebryces involved fighting with mice.8 The Bebryces lived in a dwelling-place that was attacked by a raping army.8 Dardanus married the Cretan maid Arisba after taking the seed of the Bebryces.8 Dardanus begat the ancestors of the speaker's race from the seed of the Bebryces.8

The Bebryces lost their territory to Mariandynus, who then renamed the area after himself.9 The Bebryces were surrounded by the Phrygians.10 The Bebryces completely left Europe to settle elsewhere.2 According to Eratosthenes, the Bebryces are a nation that has perished in Asia.11 The Bebryces are not mentioned in Homer's Catalogue of Ships.10
