The games

What is Godsunder?

Godsunder is a series of turn-based tactical party RPGs set in one world built from real myth. You play a hero of legend, grow your following by freeing captives and earning loyalty, and take on gods who remember everything you do.

What is Godsunder: Greek Mythos?

The first title in the series. It covers the Greek world, from Greece and the Aegean to Troy, Colchis, Sicily and the edges of Egypt, and ends with the ascent of Mount Olympus. More about Greek Mythos.

How do the titles fit together?

Each title brings one culture's myths to life and is complete on its own. They all share one map of the Earth, so if you own more than one, their lands join into a single world and campaign. Lands you don't own stay uncharted on the map. About the world.

Which mythologies will follow Greek?

We'll announce later titles when they're ready to show. Until then, the rest of the map is uncharted.

Is it based on Dungeons & Dragons or another game?

No. Godsunder is an original game built on real-world mythology. Its gods, heroes, monsters and places come from the ancient sources themselves, in public-domain translations, not from modern adaptations.

Is it historically accurate?

It's myth, not history. The setting is the mythic age the ancient poets described, placed on real geography. The game follows what the sources say about its figures and places, and from there your choices take over.

Release and platforms

When does it come out?

There's no release date yet. Godsunder: Greek Mythos is in development, with an early playable build of the world map, front end and hero selection running in the studio. Sign up for updates to hear first.

Which platforms?

PC on Steam comes first, with Steam Deck support as a goal for launch. Other platforms may follow later.

How much will it cost?

The price hasn't been set.

Is there multiplayer?

Godsunder is a single-player game first. Local and asynchronous multiplayer modes are being considered for after launch. It is not an MMO.

Can I play offline?

That's the plan. The full game, including Living Mythos, is designed to run on your own PC, with no connection required.

Will there be a subscription?

No subscription is needed to play the complete game. If optional online extras are ever offered, they'll make Living Mythos richer, never make you stronger.

What PC will I need?

System requirements aren't set yet. Graphics and Living Mythos are both designed to scale with your hardware, with a lighter mode for less powerful PCs.

Which languages?

English first. More languages are planned, with Simplified Chinese, German and Russian among the first candidates.

How it's made

Who makes Godsunder?

Christian Marvin, a one-person studio in Charleston, South Carolina. About the creator.

Does Godsunder use AI?

Yes, and we'd rather tell you plainly.

Godsunder is made by one creator directing a studio of AI tools. AI helps write the code and tools, and produces visual assets such as the character designs on this site. Every asset goes through a strict review, and anything with a flaw goes back to be fixed.

In the game, Living Mythos uses a language model to write quests, conversations and events. It works from what the ancient sources say, and the game's rules decide every outcome.

AI use will be disclosed in full on the Steam page, as Steam requires.

What is Living Mythos?

The part of the game that makes the world react to you. It writes new quests, places, rumours, omens and responses from the gods around your choices, so no two campaigns play out the same way. It's grounded in the Mythos Codex, a catalogue of figures, places, creatures and artifacts built from the ancient texts.

Where do the myths come from?

From the ancient sources in public-domain translations, including Homer, Hesiod, Apollodorus, Pausanias, Ovid and the surviving Greek tragedies. Modern retellings are used for research only.
