Melantho, the pretty daughter of Dolius, was a figure known for her sharp tongue and lack of empathy.1 Raised by Penelope, who provided her with toys in childhood, she grew into a woman marked by a sharp tongue and a lack of empathy.1

Her nature turned toward Eurymachus, with whom she fell in love and engaged in improper conduct.1 In another account, Poseidon, disguised as a dolphin, deceived her.2 Her conduct within the palace was marked by this improper association with the suitor.1

She later railed at him a second time, accusing him of spying on the women and threatening to drive him out with a firebrand.3 Throughout these encounters, she showed no consideration for her mistress's sorrows.1
