EURYALE (second eldest of the Gorgons)
Monster · mythical character; second eldest of the Gorgons
Euryale, one of the three Gorgons and sister to Sthenno and Medusa, was born of Phorcys, Gorgon, and Ceto.1,2 Her appearance was terrifying, with a head covered in dragon scales, large tusks resembling those of a pig, and hands made of bronze.1 Golden wings allowed her to fly, while her undying nature meant she never grew old.1,2 She dwelt beyond glorious Ocean in a frontier land towards Night.2
Euryale possessed the power to turn anyone who looked at her into stone.1 When Perseus arrived at the ocean, he found her asleep, though she was not the specific Gorgon whose head he was ordered to retrieve.1
