Orthrus was a hound of furious might, comparable in strength to his brother Cerberus.1 Born of Typhon and Echidna, he stood among siblings including Hydra and the famous gatekeeper of the underworld. His nature was extremely murderous, a quality that defined his existence as a creature of violence.1
He was slain by the force of a resistless club, falling dead before the body of Geryon.1 Though he sired the Sphinx and the Nemean lion and consorted with the Chimera, his fate remained sealed by that single blow.1
