Pyramus was considered the most beautiful young man in the East.1 He resided in a city built by Semiramis, living in a house next to his beloved Thisbe.1 Their fathers prohibited them from marrying each other, forcing the pair into secret communication through a small crack in their shared wall.1 From opposite sides of that barrier, they exchanged kisses without ever touching one another.1
