Chrysaor, son of Poseidon and Medusa, stood as a powerful figure born from the severed head of the Gorgon.1,2 Accounts differ on the origin of his name, with one tradition linking it to the golden blade he held and another to his great wealth.1,3

He ruled over the entire region of Iberia, where he joined in love with Callirrhoe, daughter of Ocean.3,1,4 Chrysaor had three sons known for their physical strength and courage, each commanding large armies recruited from warlike tribes.3

Eurystheus considered an expedition against Chrysaor and his sons too difficult to succeed, yet Heracles defeated the sons of Chrysaor in single combat in Iberia.3,5
