Oecles, a member of the Melampodidae lineage, resided in the region of Arcadia.1,2 He was the son of Mantius, though the codex records Antiphates and Zeuxippe as his parents.1 His most enduring legacy was his son, the seer Amphiaraus.3,4
Oecles was left in charge of guarding the fleet of ships at Ilium.5 In the ensuing battle against the ships, Laomedon killed him.5 Accounts differ regarding the location of his death, with some placing it in Arcadia and others linking it to Heracles' campaign.2,6 Alcmaeon, driven mad by the Furies, went to Oecles.2
