Arne, daughter of Aeolus, was a woman of vine-bearing nature and a destroyer of men.1,2,3 She was the sister of a queen who wore a golden girdle, and her parentage is also traced to Desmontes and Aiolos.3
Aeolus, who did not believe Poseidon was the father of his daughter's children, handed Arne over to a stranger to be taken to Metapontium.4 In Metapontium, Arne bore the sons Boeotus and Aeolus.4,5 After these sons killed Autolyte, the wife of the Metapontian man who adopted them, Arne was taken by sea by her sons and their friends.4 Boeotus named the land Arne in honor of his mother, and the country near her had white soil that explained the name Titanus.6,4
Arne gave her name to the city of Chaeroneia and to another city in Thessaly.1 She was killed by Telemon, who acted to help his companions in battle.3 Despite her violent end, Arne was claimed to have had illustrious sons.2
